Image of the Day for December 4, 2009
This is a blurred image of christmas lights using a lensbaby. The standard apeture ring is swapped with the hearts ring which creates the heart shapes. Moved the camera for a trail. I love the colors. They're so bright my vision just got worse.

November was pretty decent. The big two performed well. I think it was a record for shutterstock. The rest kind of lagged behind. I'm predicting that december will be my best month ever. I have lots of seasonal images and have been uploading every chance I get. It could slow down around Christmas but I think the early sales will make this the best month ever.

This is a night shot from the historic site Fauniel Hall. This was a meeting place where ideas were discussed and the beginnings of american revolution. It's kind of touristy now with a mall like atmosphere but that's what we do. Take a historical site and cheese it up. You can see the freedom trail on the bottom marked by the red bricks.

Jellyfish at Boston Aquarium. I love the combination of the backlight and silhouette, creates a sense of peacefulness, serenity, calmness, tranquility, stillness, and then BAM!!! STINGS YA ASS BEYATCH.

I don't think I would of taken this picture a couple of years ago. I would of missed it. When the sun is slowly setting is some of the best light you can get. It can make an alley seem interesting and beautiful.

Results for October, 2009
October is historically the best month for most stock photographers and this was true for me. Istock knocked it out the park with its best month ever. Shutterstock continued to be the second base agency. I do have a lot of seasonal fall/halloween images which contributed to this. My goal is to earn $1000 a month combined from all the agencies and I'm far from this but I feel confident that I will get there.

The cool thing about going to a city you are unfamiliar with is the newness. Everything is exciting and you can just take it in. Even the leaves on the ground.

Here is a night shot of Boston. I shot this on the last night. The day was pretty much overcast but when night comes, the city lights up and hopefully so do your images.

Pug Images
Just got back from Boston and will have images to show shortly. In the meantime, I created a lightbox on Istock on all of my pug images.

Results for September 2009
The month of September turned out pretty well. The fall is usually considered a peak period for micro stock. I do have a lot of seasonal images that help sustain the growth even in slow periods. I'm still not where I want to be and have made more of an effort to produce more marketable shots. Shutterstock had it's best month ever. Istock was down but just a little. Everything else is pretty much the same. Shutterstock bought out Bigstock but will work as separate entities. I've been accepted to both Alamy and Veer. Alamy offers higher returns with less sales. Veer has a pretty good rep and bought out Snapvillage. No sales yet on either site. Here are the stats.
1. Shutterstock - $86.75
2. Istock - $69.82
3. Dreamstime - $23.56

Results for August 2009
The month of August turned out pretty good. This is usually a peak time for stock. I-stock regained the number one spot and had it's 2nd BME. Shutterstock stayed consistent and dreamstime sold pretty consistently as well. Hopefully the economy will turn around. I've been uploading constantly to increase sales. Hopefully it will pay off.

Results for June 2009
We were up a little bit this month. A lot more consistency from the lesser agencies. I-stock and Shutterstock show that they are the 1-2 punch of the microstock industry. I expect them to switch between one and two. I'm trying out Canstock and seeing how it goes. Hopefully it will be better than Crestock. I'm continually taking pictures and building up my online portfolio.
1. Shutterstock - 38% - $62.84
2. Istock - 23% - $36.94

This is the second map and plane image I've posted but this is what I'm shooting in hopes of increase sales. The government is a great resource for copyright free maps. We bail out corrupt banks and the rich. They complain about welfare for the poor but what did they get - a bail out which is the nice word for government welfare for the privileged. Sorry for the rant. Anyways, it's cool to find the good that exists from our government and this is one small example. These maps are ours to use, as a resource or for profit. Check out this website as a great resource for maps that are copyright free.

I'm a big fan of David Hobby and what he's done a Strobist.com. He shows you how to use small flashes to get big results. His blog is a must read for anyone interested in small flash photography. He started his bootcamp II and the first assignment is to shoot a headshot using one or two flashes. The person then takes the picture of you and you turn in the images side by side. This is my wife and myself.

This is a three exposure image of our new office. I used Photomatrix to combine the images into one High Dynamic Range Image. I'm happy for the most part. All of the software I've tried leaves noise in certain parts of the image that is not acceptable. Hopefully as the technology increases, this will not be a problem.
